Three friends and a booth.
Three Notch'd was founded by three friends, George, Scott and Derek, mostly in a booth at an Irish pub off Grady Avenue in Charlottesville. They hired Brewmaster Dave Warwick, and in less than a year the first beers, Hydraulion Red and Trader Saison, were poured at 946 Grady Avenue.
George Kastendike is CEO and Scott Roth is president. Dave Warwick is the founding brewmaster.

Virginia history, in a glass
Three Notch'd Road.
Three Notch'd Road, also called Three Chopt Road, was a colonial-era east-west route across central Virginia. It is believed to have taken its name from three notches cut into trees to blaze the trail. By the 1730s it ran from present-day Richmond to the Shenandoah Valley, crossing the Blue Ridge at Jarmans Gap. Much of Route 250 and Charlottesville's downtown walking mall follow the same path.
The flagship
Jack Jouett's 40-mile ride.
The original flagship, 40 Mile IPA, is named for Jack Jouett's ride during the Revolutionary War. He rode 40 miles through the night, by the moon and the notches on the trees of Three Notch'd Road, to warn Thomas Jefferson and members of the Virginia legislature that Tarleton's cavalry was coming to capture them.
